Three new Directors General appointed at ECB

The European Central Bank's Executive Board has appointed Roland Straub, Christophe Kamps, and Petra Senkovic as new Directors General. They will lead Monetary Policy, International and European Relations, and Legal Services, with start dates in July and November 2026.

New leadership for key policy areas

The ECB's Executive Board has appointed Roland Straub as Director General Monetary Policy and Christophe Kamps as Director General International and European Relations.

Straub's department prepares monetary policy meetings and supports Governing Council decisions through analysis, collaborating with Economics and Market Operations.

He joined the ECB in 2006, previously serving as Deputy Head of Financial Market Operations and advising President Lagarde, former President Draghi, and Benoît Cœuré.

Kamps' directorate formulates ECB positions on international and European issues, including banking supervision, and coordinates global engagement.

With the ECB since 2005, Kamps was most recently acting Director General Monetary Policy and co-led the 2025 monetary policy strategy review.

Both appointments are effective July 1, 2026.

Senkovic to lead legal services

Petra Senkovic will lead the Directorate General Legal Services from November 1, 2026, providing strategic guidance on all legal matters for the ECB.

Her department offers legal advice on institutional, financial, and supervisory law, ensuring the legal certainty of ECB measures and representing the institution in legal disputes.

Senkovic is currently Director General Secretariat and Secretary to the ECB's decision-making bodies, having also served as Deputy Director General Legal Services.

She holds a Master's in European Law and a PhD in Law.

She succeeds Chiara Zilioli, who retires at the end of October.
