Banca d'Italia and Ministry sign financial education MoU

Banca d'Italia and the Ministry of Education and Merit have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to promote financial education in Italian schools. The agreement aims to strengthen students' skills, educational orientation, and future employability.

A shared vision for financial literacy

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed by Banca d'Italia and the Ministry of Education and Merit, establishes a framework for promoting financial education across Italian schools.

This initiative aims to equip students with essential economic and financial competencies, fostering responsible individual decision-making and enhancing their future employability.

Banca d'Italia emphasizes financial education as crucial for individual well-being and conscious economic citizenship, supporting the school system with dedicated resources and teacher training.

The Ministry, in turn, promotes an integrated and inclusive educational vision, focusing on developing critical thinking, decision-making skills, and inter-institutional collaboration to enrich student formation.

Legal bedrock for economic awareness

The MoU is grounded in several legislative acts, including Article 9 of the Italian Constitution, which promotes cultural development, and Article 47, which protects savings.

Key legislation like Law 107/2015 identifies economic-financial knowledge as a priority for school curricula.

Furthermore, Law 15/2017 (Art. 24 bis) and Law 21/2024 (Art. 25) explicitly mandate agreements between the Ministry of Education and financial authorities, including Banca d'Italia, to advance financial, insurance, and pension education.

These legal frameworks underscore the national commitment to integrating financial literacy into civic education.
