Monte Titoli securities deposits reach €3.4 trillion in Q1 2026
Banca d'Italia has published its latest statistics on financial market infrastructures, showing that securities deposited with Monte Titoli S.p.A. reached €3.4 trillion in the first quarter of 2026. The report also details activity in the BI-COMP payment system.
Monte Titoli's expanding role
Securities deposited with Monte Titoli S.p.A. reached €3,421.0 billion in the first quarter of 2026, up from €3,340.2 billion in Q4 2025.
Government securities comprised €2,655.4 billion of this total.
The number of participants in the central securities depository increased to 3,829 in 2025, from 3,552 in 2023, reflecting a steady expansion of the infrastructure's reach.
BI-COMP activity and changes
The BI-COMP payment system processed gross flows of €60.3 billion in March 2026, with retail subsystem payments contributing a similar amount.
For the first quarter of 2026, total BI-COMP gross flows were €179.2 billion.
Banca d'Italia highlighted that the SEPA components of BI-COMP were discontinued as of March 2024, which affects data comparability for earlier periods.
