Banca d'Italia's 25 years of technical cooperation strengthens global finance
Banca d'Italia celebrates 25 years of international technical cooperation, reporting 60 activities in the second half of 2025 involving 460 representatives from 50 central banks. This initiative reinforces global capacity-building and financial stability.
Two decades of global cooperation
During the second half of 2025, Banca d'Italia conducted 60 international technical cooperation activities, engaging approximately 460 representatives from 50 central banks, supervisory authorities, and international organizations.
These initiatives included 2 seminars, 4 webinars, 12 videoconferences, 21 written consultations, 11 study visits, 5 missions, 3 steering committee meetings, and 2 internships.
This extensive engagement reaffirms the institution's commitment to global capacity-building through shared practices, dialogue, and mutual learning.
The period also marked the 25th anniversary of Banca d'Italia's technical cooperation framework, highlighting its evolution beyond mere training events into a crucial bridge connecting institutions.
This framework enables collaborative approaches to cross-cutting challenges such as digital transformation, climate-related risks, operational resilience, and the modernization of financial infrastructure, fostering a robust community of practice across multiple regions and policy domains.
Expanding reach and evolving methods
Over 25 years, Banca d'Italia's international technical cooperation has transformed from ad-hoc bilateral initiatives into a structured pillar of global engagement.
The number of beneficiary countries has expanded significantly, now interacting with over 60 nations, with activities diversifying into agile, technologically advanced formats like webinars and videocalls.
Thematic coverage has also broadened beyond classic central banking functions to include complex issues such as the digitalization of payments, cybersecurity, and climate change.
This evolution includes participation in two successful ESCB programmes, funded by the European Commission, aimed at strengthening central bank capacities in the Western Balkans and selected African countries.
Both programmes concluded positively in 2025 and are set to continue, reinforcing institutional capacity-building.
Human connection trumps AI
In an age of artificial intelligence, Banca d'Italia firmly asserts that human-led international technical cooperation remains indispensable.
While AI offers quick information, it cannot build reciprocal relationships, foster mutual trust, or cultivate professional communities.
The 25 years of collaboration underscore that genuine institutional bridges, built on shared language and continuous dialogue, are the most advanced technology for navigating a complex and digital world.
