Banca d'Italia releases eight new research papers

Banca d'Italia has released three new Working Papers and five new Occasional Papers. These eight publications cover topics from monetary policy to labor supply and inflation forecasting.

Monetary policy transmission explored

Two of the new Working Papers delve into the intricacies of monetary policy transmission.

Paper No. 1536 examines the real economic effects of monetary policy via the floating-rate channel, analyzing its impacts on bank lending and investment dynamics.

This research provides a detailed look at how variable-rate loans influence the tangible economic consequences of central bank interest rate changes.

Complementing this, Paper No. 1535 explores asymmetric monetary policy transmission across various euro-area manufacturing industries.

It investigates how monetary policy affects different industrial sectors unevenly, examining its diverse effects on industrial production, inflation, and broader business fluctuations.

These studies collectively offer crucial insights into the complex channels through which central bank actions influence the real economy and its various segments.

Diverse research across economics

The remaining papers cover a broad range of economic and social research.

Topics include intra-household time use, female labor supply, and fertility (Working Paper No. 1534), and cross-elasticities and shock propagation in credit markets (Occasional Paper No. 1029).

Advanced forecasting methods are explored in two papers: one uses large language models and Reddit data for US inflation (No. 1028), while another applies online prices and machine learning to nowcast the Italian consumer price index (No. 1026).

Further studies analyze tourism demand linked to UNESCO sites (No. 1027) and the implications of 'China Shock 2.0' for the euro area (No. 1025).
