Thakoor launches BOMStats portal for standardized official data

Bank of Mauritius Governor Priscilla Muthoora Thakoor launched BOMStats, a centralized statistical data portal, on September 3, 2026. The platform provides machine-readable monetary, financial, external and payment statistics following the country's accession to the IMF SDDS Plus standard.

Interactive dashboards replace static bulletins

The Bank of Mauritius unveiled its new centralized platform, BOMStats, migrating series previously published in the Monthly Statistical Bulletin into interactive dashboards and downloadable time series.

Built on the African Development Bank's Open Data Platform, the portal adopts the Statistical Data and Metadata eXchange (SDMX) framework.

“BOMStats embodies our belief that reliable, timely, and accessible data supports better decisions across society,” Thakoor said.

The system establishes a standardized gateway for monetary, financial, external sector and payment statistics, automating reporting workflows for international institutions and domestic agencies.

SDDS Plus compliance drives technical overhaul

The release directly follows the accession of Mauritius to the International Monetary Fund's Special Data Dissemination Standard Plus in March 2026, the highest tier within the multilateral framework.

Developed with technical assistance from the IMF and the African Development Bank, the project coordinates outputs from Statistics Mauritius and the Ministry of Finance.

The initiative marks the central bank's 59th anniversary by modernizing historical records and aligning local statistical reporting with global norms.

Basic hygiene, not policy innovation

Adopting SDMX protocols resolves persistent statistical fragmentation across domestic agencies.

Yet modernizing data pipelines is basic technical hygiene rather than a breakthrough for monetary governance.

The platform will only prove valuable if analysts use the feeds to rigorously scrutinize policy choices.
