Simon Sloan has been appointed Director of Strategy and Governance at the Central Bank of Ireland on September 15, 2026. He succeeds Glenn Calverley, who assumes the role of Director of Finance and Business Performance.
Strategic cycle gets a new lead
Governor Gabriel Makhlouf announced the appointment of Simon Sloan as the new Director of Strategy and Governance at the Central Bank of Ireland on September 15, 2026.
Makhlouf highlighted Sloan’s internal insight: “His experience and understanding of the organisation, combined with his commitment to our values and mission will be key strengths that he brings both to this role and to the broader senior leadership team, particularly as we establish our priorities and organisational Strategy for our next strategic cycle.”
Sloan replaces Glenn Calverley, who takes over as Director of Finance & Business Performance.
From asset management to chief of staff
Sloan joined the Central Bank of Ireland in 2011, having previously worked in senior positions within the financial services sector.
Over the past fifteen years at the institution, he served in various leadership capacities across the Asset Management, Consumer Protection, and Banking & Payments Directorates.
Most recently, Sloan operated as Counsellor to the Governor and Chief of Staff, coordinating institutional management and strategic advisory operations at the executive level.
Continuity over disruption
Promoting an insider provides administrative stability ahead of the central bank's next strategic cycle.
Sloan brings proven experience across key directorates, though internal succession rarely introduces structural reform.
The move maintains executive continuity without signaling any change in regulatory priorities.
