The proposals focus on two distinct themes, "European culture" and "Rivers and birds," alongside associated motifs chosen to illustrate them.
Governor of the Central Bank of Ireland Gabriel Makhlouf emphasized that banknotes represent a shared identity, diversity, and values.
He encouraged the public to participate in the online survey, which remains open until September 21, 2026.
The Governing Council is expected to make a final decision on the new designs around the end of the year.
Modernizing cash for citizens
The selection process follows extensive preparatory work by the central bank community and advisory groups to modernize euro cash and ensure it remains secure, accessible, and appealing to all citizens.
