Saint George investment coins launched in gold and silver
Four new Saint George the Victorious investment coins in silver and gold enter circulation on August 21, 2026. Issued by the Bank of Russia, the series spans denominations from 100 rubles to 10,000 rubles.
From 15 grams to one kilogram
The release comprises four distinct investment coins with a fineness of 999/1,000. A 100-ruble silver coin contains 1,000.0 grams of fine metal with a 100.0 mm diameter and a limited mintage of up to 100 pieces.
In gold, the central bank introduces three variants: a 100-ruble coin containing 15.55 grams of fine metal across a 30.0 mm diameter, a 200-ruble coin containing 31.1 grams with a 33.0 mm diameter, and a massive 10,000-ruble coin containing 1,000.0 grams across a 100.0 mm diameter.
Both the 100-ruble and 200-ruble gold coins have a maximum mintage of 100,000 pieces each, while the 10,000-ruble gold piece is capped at just 100 pieces.
Classic iconography and legal tender
Minted in uncirculated quality with corrugated edges, all coins carry the National Coat of Arms of the Russian Federation on the obverse alongside standard statutory inscriptions, purity marks, and mint trademarks.
The one-kilogram silver and gold versions also feature individualized serial numbers.
On the reverse, each piece displays Saint George the Victorious slaying a dragon.
The Bank of Russia confirmed that all coins are legal tender payable at face value without restrictions.
Precious metals over policy
Routine coin issuances serve wealth preservation demand rather than monetary policy functions.
While high-volume gold coins target retail savers, the ultra-low mintage of one-kilogram pieces caters exclusively to elite collectors.
For the broader financial system, the macroeconomic impact of such releases remains negligible.
