September price growth stays moderate across most Russian regions

Price growth remained moderate in most Russian regions in September, the Bank of Russia (CBR) reported on October 16, 2026. Food prices were unchanged nationwide, while services prices increased notably.

Harvest relief offsets food increases

Prices for a wide range of non-food goods increased only slightly across Russian regions in September.

Fuel prices continued to rise, but much more slowly than in June–July; they fell or remained unchanged in one third of regions.

Electronics became more expensive as the ruble weakened and global component prices increased.

Nationwide food prices were unchanged over the month.

Newly harvested fruit and vegetables became cheaper, while sugar prices fell as processing of the new sugar beet harvest expanded supply.

Egg prices rose noticeably because of a seasonal increase in demand.

Some cereals and fish products also became more expensive as supply declined.

Education costs outpace seasonal patterns

Services prices increased notably in most regions.

Education prices rose, as they usually do in September, but the increase was sharper than was typical for the month.

Domestic tourism continued to become cheaper.

These contrasting movements accompanied regional differences in fuel prices and supply-driven changes in food prices.

The CBR referred readers to its regional information and analytical materials for more detailed accounts of inflation in each region.

Moderation masks uneven pressures

Moderate overall price growth did not extend to every category.

Unchanged nationwide food prices combined harvest-related declines with increases in eggs, cereals and fish products.

Education and electronics added price pressures despite relief from tourism and slower fuel price growth.
