New 25-ruble Russian Sports series coins issued
The Bank of Russia will issue five new 25-ruble cupronickel commemorative coins from the 'Russian Sports' series on 1 July 2026. The series features 'Dynamo', 'CSKA', 'Lokomotiv', 'Spartak', and 'Labor Reserves' sports societies.
National Arms on obverse, sports symbols on reverse
The 25-ruble cupronickel coins are round with a 27.0 mm diameter and a corrugated edge.
The obverse of each coin features a relief image of the National Coat of Arms of the Russian Federation.
Above the coat of arms, the semicircular inscription 'РОССИЙСКАЯ ФЕДЕРАЦИЯ' (RUSSIAN FEDERATION) is framed by paired diamonds.
Below the coat of arms, the inscriptions 'БАНК РОССИИ' (BANK OF RUSSIA), the denomination '25 РУБЛЕЙ' (25 RUBLES), and the year of issue '2026 г.' (2026) are arranged in three lines.
A mint trademark is also present on the right side of the obverse.
The reverse of each coin features a coloured image of the symbols of the respective sports society, with some also including a relief inscription of the society's name around the circumference.
Five sports societies celebrated
The series features five distinct 25-ruble coins, each honoring a prominent Russian sports society: 'Dynamo' (Catalogue No. 5015-0079), 'CSKA' (Catalogue No. 5015-0080), 'Lokomotiv' (Catalogue No. 5015-0081), 'Spartak' (Catalogue No. 5015-0082), and 'Labor Reserves' (Catalogue No. 5015-0083).
The reverse of each coin displays a coloured image of its respective society's symbols.
'Dynamo', 'Lokomotiv', and 'Spartak' coins also include their names in relief.
Each coin has a mintage of 50,000 pieces.
These new coins are legal tender throughout the Russian Federation and must be accepted for all payments at their face value.
Routine issuance, cultural significance
The issuance of commemorative coins is a routine operational activity for central banks, celebrating national heritage or significant events.
While these releases do not impact monetary policy, they foster public engagement with currency and national identity.
This series highlights the cultural importance of sports societies in Russia, blending numismatic interest with national pride.
