Russian credit institutions: numbers, capital, and territorial presence
The Central Bank of Russia (CBR) has published statistics on the quantitative characteristics and territorial presence of operating credit institutions for early 2026. The data covers total institutions, their authorized capital, and the number of branches and offices across Russia.
Credit institution numbers and types
As of March 1, 2026, Russia's operating credit institutions totaled 355, a slight increase from 352 at the start of the year.
This figure included 305 banks, with 213 holding universal licenses and 92 operating under basic licenses.
Non-bank credit institutions numbered 50. A significant 285 institutions were covered by the mandatory deposit insurance system, ensuring broad protection for depositors.
Branch network and capital growth
The physical network of credit institutions in Russia included 374 branches and 22,013 additional offices as of March 1, 2026.
Mobile offices numbered 392. The total registered authorized capital for operating credit institutions reached 3,417.22 billion rubles by March, marking an increase from 3,374.2 billion rubles at the start of the year.
