Šatran named director of Moravia Regional Division

The Czech National Bank's Bank Board has appointed Lumír Šatran as Director of the Moravia Regional Division in the Cash and Payments Department. He will take up the post on November 1, 2026, succeeding interim head Jakub Žák.

From fire rescue service to the CNB

At its meeting on October 8, 2026, the Bank Board of the Czech National Bank appointed Lumír Šatran Director of the Moravia Regional Division in the Cash and Payments Department, following a successful selection procedure.

He will take up the position on November 1, 2026. Šatran joins the CNB from the Fire Rescue Service of the Olomouc Region, where he has worked since 2019 as head of the Operations and Asset Management Unit.

Until he takes up his post, the division will continue to be led by Jakub Žák, who was appointed by the Bank Board to manage it on an interim basis following the departure of the previous director in August 2026.

Three decades in customs and rail

Šatran graduated in Business Economics from the University of Žilina in 2006.

He began his career in 1989 as a security systems technician at Czech Railways before joining the Customs Administration in 1993.

He served as an officer and later Deputy Director at the Olomouc Customs Directorate from 2003, heading it from 2005.

He subsequently became Deputy Director General for Economic Affairs, then for Operations, and First Deputy Director General from 2017 to 2019 at the General Directorate of Customs.

A routine handover, not a signal

This is a routine personnel appointment with no bearing on monetary policy or financial markets.

Šatran's background in customs enforcement and emergency management, rather than banking, reflects the operational nature of the Moravia Regional Division's cash and payments remit.

The announcement matters mainly to CNB staff and regional stakeholders.
