Adam and Zeman take IMF posts from November 1

Tomáš Adam and Mikuláš Zeman of the Czech National Bank (CNB) will take International Monetary Fund (IMF) posts on November 1, 2026. Adam becomes Alternate Executive Director and Zeman Advisor to the Executive Director.

Czech representation returns to leadership

The Czech Republic returns to the leadership of the IMF's Central and Eastern European constituency office in Washington, D.C., after eight years.

The constituency comprises Austria, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia, Slovenia, Türkiye and Kosovo.

Its leadership includes an Executive Director and two Alternate Executive Directors.

Adam will attend Executive Board meetings and act for the Executive Director with full decision-making authority, helping coordinate and present constituency positions.

Zeman will prepare analytical materials and positions and assist coordination.

Both will represent the whole constituency.

The CNB Bank Board appointed them following selection committee recommendations after competitions first opened to all CNB employees.

Two routes into the Fund

Adam joined the CNB in 2011, analyzing the external economy and euro area.

He worked at the European Central Bank in financial stability in 2015–2016 and has advised Governor Aleš Michl since 2019.

He holds an economics PhD from Charles University.

Zeman, the Monetary Department's chief international cooperation expert, prepares IMF analyses and briefings and represents the CNB on the EU Sub-Committee on IMF and Related Issues (SCIMF).

He holds a PhD in economic theory from Prague University of Economics and Business, where he lectures.

Experience with a return

Governor Aleš Michl said the appointments give employees a fair opportunity to develop their talents.

He said their IMF experience would benefit both them and the CNB when they return.

The CNB said the posts also strengthen the Czech Republic's voice within the Fund.
