Dutch households hold €3.2 billion in crypto with domestic providers

Dutch households held €3.2 billion in crypto-assets with domestic providers at the end of June 2026, De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB) reported on October 27. This equalled roughly 1.4 percent of their securities investments.

Bitcoin leads the holdings

DNB's first figures on direct crypto holdings with Dutch service providers put total Dutch holdings at €3.4 billion at the end of Q2 2026.

Households accounted for €3.2 billion, while businesses and other domestic sectors held a further €200 million.

Virtually all household holdings consisted of unbacked crypto-assets, including €1.5 billion in Bitcoin and €0.3 billion in Ethereum.

Backed crypto-assets, or stablecoins designed to track currencies such as the dollar or euro, represented less than 1 percent.

For comparison, households held €234.2 billion in listed shares, investment funds and bonds at the end of June 2026.

Domestic providers define the perimeter

The statistics cover crypto-asset service providers (CASPs) in the Netherlands, including Bitvavo, Coinmerce and Blox.

Their services include crypto custody and administration, portfolio management and trading platforms.

The figures exclude Dutch investors' assets with foreign CASPs and assets held directly in hardware or software wallets, known as cold and hot wallets.

They also exclude indirect crypto investments, which DNB has reported on separately.

A partial exposure map

The €3.2 billion measures holdings through domestic providers, not total household crypto exposure.

Foreign platforms, personal wallets and indirect investments remain outside its scope.

Within that perimeter, unbacked assets dominate household holdings.
