Anthropic backs FCA Supercharged Sandbox with Claude access
Anthropic has joined the second group of firms in the Financial Conduct Authority's Supercharged Sandbox. The partnership provides 21 participating organisations with access to Claude to accelerate financial AI development.
Accelerating financial innovation
Anthropic will provide participating firms in the second cohort of the Financial Conduct Authority's Supercharged Sandbox with direct access to Claude, including Claude Code and Claude Cowork.
The initiative aims to accelerate development work across twenty-one selected organisations, such as Scottish Widows, Money Advice Trust, and TrueLayer.
Demand for the sandbox surged, with applications increasing by fifty-one percent to one hundred ninety-nine compared to the inaugural round.
Participants will test various artificial intelligence use cases, focusing on safer agent-led payments, advanced fraud detection, economic crime prevention, strengthened governance models, and improved compliance automation across financial markets.
Building digital infrastructure
The Supercharged Sandbox builds upon existing digital infrastructure provided by NayaOne and accelerated computing capabilities from NVIDIA.
Alongside this expansion, the FCA launched the Agentic Academy, a ten-week specialist programme delivered in partnership with the Centre for Finance, Technology and Entrepreneurship.
Jessica Rusu, chief data, intelligence and information officer at the FCA, noted that the initiative aligns with commitments to foster economic growth while maintaining the United Kingdom's position at the forefront of responsible artificial intelligence adoption.
Pragmatic AI acceleration
Public-private partnerships are becoming the default blueprint for regulatory tech sandboxes.
By outsourcing technical infrastructure to tech giants like Anthropic and NVIDIA, regulators bypass internal capability bottlenecks.
However, this deep reliance on proprietary models raises long-term governance questions for public watchdogs.
