HKMA and DFSA to co-host climate finance summit in Hong Kong
The Hong Kong Monetary Authority and the Dubai Financial Services Authority will co-host the third Joint Climate Finance Conference on September 10 in Hong Kong. The event will focus on driving transition finance across Asia and the Middle East.
Bridging Asian and Middle Eastern capital
The third edition of the conference, themed "Driving Transition in a Changing World," serves as a flagship initiative established by both regulators to enable climate finance across Asia and the Middle East.
Taking place during Hong Kong Green Week 2026, the event brings together corporate leaders, investors, and policymakers with support from HKEX and Nasdaq Dubai.
Discussions will center on strategic emerging sectors in both financial hubs, featuring panel sessions and talks on transition finance.
HKMA Chief Executive Eddie Yue emphasized the urgency of aligning capital toward real-world solutions, stating the goal is to move beyond discussion and unlock tangible investment opportunities.
Two hubs, one green corridor
The initiative underscores deepening regulatory ties between Hong Kong and Dubai as cross-border channels for sustainable investments.
DFSA Chief Executive Mark Steward highlighted that the gathering provides a valuable platform to strengthen cooperation and advance sustainable finance.
The event is embedded within Hong Kong Green Week, running from September 7 to 11 under the theme "Future-proofing Sustainable Growth.
" By leveraging local exchange infrastructure, both financial centers aim to act as primary catalysts for capital flows into credibly decarbonizing emerging markets.
Rhetoric must yield real capital
Bilateral regulatory dialogues signal welcome cooperation between major financial centers.
However, high-level summits alone cannot bridge the massive funding shortfall required for real decarbonization.
Without concrete taxonomy alignment and binding capital commitments, such events risk delivering rhetoric rather than real transition progress.
