IADS Developer Hackathon concludes, fostering secure account data sharing
The Hong Kong Monetary Authority and Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation announced the winners of the IADS Developer Hackathon on March 27, 2026. This event concludes a six-month initiative to boost secure interbank account data sharing and digital transformation in Hong Kong.
Catalyst for banking innovation
The Hackathon, launched in October 2025, united the banking industry and fintech firms to collaborate on innovative, secure, and customer-consented solutions.
These solutions leverage the Interbank Account Data Sharing (IADS) initiative to accelerate digital transformation in Hong Kong's banking sector.
Five finalist teams presented their solutions to a judging panel after a rigorous selection and mentorship phase.
Nelson Chow, Executive Director (Financial Infrastructure) of the HKMA, stated that the Hackathon served as a 'catalyst for innovation' and delivered 'high-quality and practical solutions' for financial services.
He emphasized continued collaboration with banks and fintech firms to drive broader adoption of IADS.
Fostering Hong Kong's fintech ecosystem
Eric Or, Chief Ecosystem Development Officer of the HKSTP, highlighted the Hackathon's reflection of a strong collaborative spirit within Hong Kong's innovation community.
He noted that connecting fintech talent with industry needs helps accelerate new ideas, enhancing banking efficiency and user experience through secure data sharing.
The HKSTP provided a sandbox testing platform and technical support for the competition, anticipating these solutions will contribute significantly to Hong Kong's fintech development.
