Anti-fraud AI music video 'Confronting Lachachu' secures international award

The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) has released its new anti-fraud AI music video 'Confronting Lachachu' as part of its 2026 public education campaign. This innovative promotional strategy has been recognized with the 'Central Banking Awards 2026 – Communications Initiative'.

AI-powered kung fu battle against 'Lachachu'

The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) has released 'Confronting Lachachu,' an AI-produced music video that uses a kung fu game concept to deliver anti-fraud messages.

The video features Mr Arthur Yuen, Deputy Chief Executive of the HKMA, who transforms into a game character to battle 'Lachachu' – a fraudster character whose name means 'despicable banana' in Cantonese.

Lachachu disguises itself as various identities, including a ticket scalper, customer service representative, courier, and a dating partner, to entice the public into clicking suspicious links, disclosing personal information, or making instant fund transfers.

The HKMA urges the public to remember three golden rules for fraud prevention, aiming to unite all sectors of society in combating scams through this entertaining yet educational approach.

This initiative is a core part of the HKMA's 2026 anti-fraud public education campaign, sustaining a down-to-earth approach to enhance public awareness.

International acclaim for innovative outreach

The HKMA's innovative public education approach has garnered international recognition, securing the 'Central Banking Awards 2026 – Communications Initiative.'

This award acknowledges prior anti-fraud initiatives, including a song co-performed by Mr Arthur Yuen and interactive promotions featuring 'Lachachu.'

These efforts have contributed to a collective defense against scams, reflected in Hong Kong Police Force statistics showing a 2.9% drop in fraud cases in 2025, the first decrease since 2019.

A total of 43,212 cases were recorded.

The HKMA will continue promoting fraud prevention, strengthening Hong Kong's financial system.
