Pan meets nine governors on bilateral financial cooperation

Pan Gongsheng, Governor of the People's Bank of China (PBOC), met nine central bank governors on October 14-16, 2026. Talks during the International Monetary Fund-World Bank Annual Meetings covered global economic developments and bilateral financial cooperation.

Five counterparts across Asia-Pacific

Pan held separate meetings with central bank governors during the annual meetings, according to the PBOC's October 17, 2026 statement.

Counterparts included Vitai Ratanakorn, Governor of the Bank of Thailand; Destry Damayanti, Governor of Bank Indonesia; and Dato' Sri Abdul Rasheed Ghaffour, Governor of Bank Negara Malaysia.

Pan also met Sanjay Malhotra, Governor of the Reserve Bank of India, and Michele Bullock, Governor of the Reserve Bank of Australia.

These five governors were among nine counterparts named in the statement.

PBOC Deputy Governor Xuan Changneng attended the meetings, which covered global economic developments and deeper practical bilateral financial cooperation.

Four further bilateral meetings

Pan's other counterparts were Fatih Karahan, Governor of the Central Bank of the Republic of Türkiye; Hassan Abdalla, Governor of the Central Bank of Egypt; Olayemi Cardoso, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria; and Natela Turnava, Governor of the National Bank of Georgia.

The PBOC described the exchanges collectively as discussions of global economic developments and deeper bilateral practical financial cooperation.

It did not provide separate accounts of the discussions with each governor.

Dialogue without announced commitments

The statement records bilateral dialogue rather than a policy decision.

It names the participants and broad discussion topics but announces no agreements or implementation dates.

The release therefore documents engagement, not a change in financial arrangements.
