New data centre to house India's RTGS and NEFT systems

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) Data Centre and Cybersecurity Training Institute in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, on October 25, 2026. The centre will house mission-critical payment systems.

Payment systems get new infrastructure

Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said the data centre will house RBI's mission-critical systems, including RTGS and NEFT.

The training institute will build expertise in cybersecurity, AI and other emerging technologies.

She linked resilient infrastructure to financial stability and sustained economic growth.

Modi said secure banking requires robust data centres and powerful computing, linking the facilities to technological self-reliance and wider access to development.

RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra emphasized emerging technologies, stronger digital infrastructure, cybersecurity and indigenous capabilities, supporting India's aspiration to become a developed nation by 2047.

National and state leaders attend

Attendees included Odisha Governor Brajmohan Ram, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram and Deputy Chief Ministers Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo and Pravati Parida.

Members of Parliament Manmohan Samal and Aparajita Sarangi also attended.

Participants included RBI Central Board directors, bank heads, technology providers, academics and central and state government representatives.

Chief General Manager Brij Raj signed press release 2026-2027/1384.

Resilience through infrastructure and skills

The facilities combine infrastructure for mission-critical systems with training in cybersecurity and emerging technologies.

Sitharaman linked that resilience to financial stability.

Malhotra placed indigenous capabilities within RBI's broader technological commitments.
