RBI appoints Ravi Shankar as Executive Director

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has appointed Shri Ravi Shankar as Executive Director, effective July 1, 2026. He will oversee the Department of Statistics and Information Management.

A Statistician's Journey

Prior to his promotion as ED, Shri Shankar served as Adviser-In-Charge of the Department of Statistics and Information Management.

As a career central banker statistician, he brings over three decades of experience at the Reserve Bank, having worked in critical areas such as corporate and banking statistics, government securities market and settlement systems, and debt management.

His expertise also extends to conducting various surveys within the Reserve Bank, and he has contributed as a member to several committees and working groups focused on macroeconomic statistics and policy issues.

This extensive background positions him as a seasoned expert within the institution.

Leading Data Management

In his new capacity as Executive Director, Shri Shankar will specifically oversee the Department of Statistics and Information Management, leveraging his deep institutional knowledge and long-standing experience.

His academic background includes a Master's Degree in Statistics from Banaras Hindu University, a Diploma in Development Policy and Planning from the Institute of Economic Growth, Delhi, and certification as an Associate of the Indian Institute of Banking and Finance (CAIIB).

These qualifications underpin his technical proficiency and strategic understanding of data management in a central banking context.
