Eight forward-looking surveys span consumer sentiment and credit

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) published the results of eight forward-looking surveys covering consumer sentiment, inflation expectations, and economic activity for September and the second quarter of fiscal 2026-27.

From households to professional forecasters

The Reserve Bank of India published data spanning eight forward-looking survey series on October 7, 2026.

On the household front, the central bank released the September 2026 rounds of the Urban Consumer Confidence Survey, the Rural Consumer Confidence Survey, and the Inflation Expectations Survey of Households.

Macroeconomic projections were updated through the 102nd round of the Survey of Professional Forecasters on Macroeconomic Indicators.

The release also covers corporate and financial conditions via the Order Books, Inventories and Capacity Utilisation Survey for Q1:2026-27, alongside the Industrial Outlook Survey, the Bank Lending Survey, and the Services and Infrastructure Outlook Survey for Q2:2026-27.

Two-month cadence across sectors

The release follows the previous survey round published on August 5, 2026, maintaining the central bank's bi-monthly schedule of sentiment tracking across India's real and financial sectors.

The survey data captures expectations across manufacturing, infrastructure, services, and credit distribution, alongside retail inflation sentiment.

The Reserve Bank of India clarified that all survey results are compiled directly from external respondents and do not represent the central bank's own forecasts.

Indispensable input without commitment

Broad survey batteries provide essential real-time inputs for monetary policy deliberation ahead of rate announcements.

Disclaimers notwithstanding, shifting household inflation expectations directly constrain central bank policy space.

Routine dissemination keeps market transparency intact without binding official projections.
