Three ₹1.25 lakh prizes offered for Hindi economics books

The Reserve Bank of India has opened nominations for its 2025-26 book writing scheme, offering three prizes of ₹1,25,000 each. The initiative rewards university professors who author original books in Hindi on economics, banking, and finance.

Fostering research in Banking Hindi

The Reserve Bank of India's scheme aims to expand the availability of high-quality academic literature written originally in Hindi.

To qualify for the three awards of ₹1,25,000 each, authors must produce original works covering core topics in economics, banking, or financial subjects rather than translations.

The competition is explicitly open to both serving and retired faculty members, including Assistant and Associate Professors, from any university in India recognized by the University Grants Commission.

By targeting university scholars, the central bank seeks to build a robust foundation for specialized research and vernacular education in financial disciplines across the country.

Submission rules and August deadline

Interested participants must submit their nominations along with physical copies of their published books in the prescribed proforma before August 31, 2026, at 05:00 PM.

Submissions must be addressed to Chief General Manager Brij Raj at the RBI's Rajbhasha Department, located on the 8th floor of the Central Office in Mumbai's Bandra Kurla Complex.

Complete guidelines and nomination forms are detailed in the official annex provided by the central bank's Department of Communication.

A symbolic gesture with modest reach

Cash prizes for vernacular literature encourage regional scholarship in financial domain topics.

Yet three modest awards do little to dismantle broader structural barriers in Hindi academic publishing.

Long-term impact requires systemic publishing infrastructure rather than occasional prize schemes.
