32 Sovereign Gold Bond tranches open for early redemption

A total of 32 Sovereign Gold Bond tranches will become eligible for premature redemption between October 2026 and March 2027, according to the Reserve Bank of India. Investors can submit encashment requests after meeting the mandatory five-year holding threshold.

Windows across 32 bond tranches

The schedule covers 32 distinct tranches originally issued between June 2019 and March 2022, spanning series from fiscal years 2019-20, 2020-21, and 2021-22. Under the framework, investors holding bonds for more than five years can exercise premature redemption during specific submission windows.

The earliest redemption window begins on September 14, 2026, for the 2019-20 Series V bonds, ahead of the October 15, 2026 redemption date.

The series concludes with the 2021-22 Series X tranche, which allows submission from February 5, 2027, to February 26, 2027, before its March 8, 2027 redemption date.

Requests can be lodged via designated Receiving Offices, NSDL, CDSL, or RBI Retail Direct.

Guidelines establish five-year lock-in

According to the Reserve Bank of India, the redemption process operates under Para 13 of the Consolidated Procedural Guidelines issued on October 22, 2021.

While Sovereign Gold Bonds carry an eight-year total maturity, premature encashment becomes permissible upon completing five years from the issue date.

Chief General Manager Brij Raj confirmed that specified dates remain subject to adjustment if unscheduled holidays occur during the operational submission windows.

Administrative clarity over secondary liquidity

Publishing structured redemption calendars provides vital liquidity planning for retail investors seeking early exits.

Fixed submission windows nonetheless impose operational friction compared to direct secondary trading.

The schedule delivers essential administrative clarity without altering sovereign debt dynamics.
