SRB outlines 2026 work programme for crisis readiness

The Single Resolution Board (SRB) presented its 2026 work programme, focusing on deepening operational readiness and strengthening cooperation across the resolution community. Key initiatives include a multi-annual testing framework and revamped resolvability assessments.

Operational readiness takes center stage

The SRB's 2026 work programme prioritises deepening operational readiness and strengthening cooperation within the resolution community.

A key initiative is the launch of a multi-annual testing framework, established under European Banking Authority (EBA) guidelines, to ensure banks' resolvability capabilities are effective and adequate.

The SRB will conduct comprehensive dry runs and produce a revamped resolvability assessment in collaboration with National Resolution Authorities (NRAs).

Crisis preparedness is central, with plans to expand on-site inspections and deepen analysis of governance and key operational capabilities.

These activities aim to ensure resolution strategies are not only well-designed but also practical, efficient, and ready for use when needed, building on the first two years of the SRM Vision 2028.

Strategic dialogue and digital focus

Beyond operational deepening, the SRB will contribute to broader policy discussions on simplification, competitiveness, and the Single Market, particularly concerning the Savings and Investment Union.

It will also advance its strategic objective to position the Single Resolution Mechanism (SRM) as a leading reference in resolution, convening its first international Economic Conference in March 2026.

Digital transformation remains a central enabler, with significant progress planned in operationalising its Data Quality Framework to streamline data governance and foster consistency across the SRM.

This effort is supported by intensified collaboration and knowledge sharing with NRAs, ensuring efficient data use for resolution purposes.

From blueprint to battlefield

The SRB's 2026 work programme reflects a necessary evolution from planning to practical execution.

While ambitious, the focus on operational testing and data quality addresses critical gaps in crisis readiness.

Success hinges on effective collaboration with national authorities and the banking sector to translate these plans into tangible resilience.
