Carles Manera, a Professor of Economic History and Institutions, has been reappointed to the Governing Council of the Banco de España for another six-year term, extending his service that began in July 2020.
Since 2023, he has chaired the Banco de España's Audit Committee, a vital body for ensuring the integrity of the central bank's financial statements and internal controls.
Born in Palma de Mallorca in 1957, Manera holds doctorates in Economics from the University of Barcelona and in History from the University of the Balearic Islands.
His prior administrative experience as Vice-Rector for Economic and Administrative Planning at the University of the Balearic Islands further underscores his blend of scholarly expertise and practical leadership, making him a valuable asset to the Governing Council's diverse perspectives on economic and institutional matters.
Public Service and Academic Recognition
Manera's career includes significant public service, having served as Counselor for Economy, Finance, and Innovation in the Balearic government from 2007 to 2011.
He also chaired the Economic and Social Council of the Balearic Islands between 2017 and 2020.
A nationally and internationally recognized researcher, Manera has authored 11 books and published over 255 specialized works in economics and economic history.
