Spanish growth forecasts rise to 2.6 percent for 2026

Bank of Spain Director General of Economics David López Salido presented upgraded Spanish growth and inflation forecasts at the University of Valladolid on October 15, 2026. The projections cover 2026 and 2027.

Growth and inflation revised higher

The Bank of Spain projects GDP growth of 2.6 percent in 2026 and 2.2 percent in 2027, respectively 0.3 and 0.5 percentage points above its June forecasts.

National inflation projections stand at 3.9 percent and 3.7 percent, upward revisions of 0.3 and 1.1 percentage points.

López Salido attributed continued economic momentum to strong private consumption, job creation and population growth, despite a complex international environment and higher energy costs.

He discussed the factors shaping the coming quarters at the University of Valladolid's Faculty of Economics and Business.

He also presented BELab, the bank's Data Laboratory, which gives researchers access to granular databases.

Regional businesses compare conditions

At the bank's Valladolid branch, López Salido held a working breakfast with companies from Castile and Leon's automotive, ancillary manufacturing, agri-food and logistics sectors.

The Spanish Chamber of Commerce and the Official Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Services of Valladolid jointly organized the meeting.

Participants exchanged views on economic conditions.

López Salido also shared results for regional companies from the Bank of Spain Business Activity Survey (EBAE), bringing the discussion to conditions reported by local firms.

Stronger growth, higher inflation

The upgrades pair stronger output with higher inflation, rather than an unqualified improvement.

López Salido also met Carlos Fernández Carriedo, Castile and Leon's economy and finance minister, over lunch.

Regional government, trade union, business and university representatives joined the institutional meeting.
