Torre Arias Palace to host new financial education hub

The Banco de España has secured a 75-year concession from the Madrid City Council to convert the main buildings of Quinta de Torre Arias into an economic education space and training center. The initiative forms part of the central bank's Strategic Plan 2030.

A historical site repurposed

The Madrid City Council granted the 75-year concession for the main unused buildings of Quinta de Torre Arias, located in the San Blas-Canillejas district, following months of analysis.

Situated near the Banco de España's office at Alcalá 522, the site was selected for its scale and representative character.

While the main palace and stables will be repurposed, the surrounding gardens will remain open for public use.

Under the agreement, the central bank will assume responsibility for preserving nearby historical elements, including fountains, decorative objects, and pavements.

It will also upgrade access for individuals with reduced mobility and collaborate with local community groups to highlight the estate's agricultural past.

Interactive exhibits for youth

Espacio Eureka will feature interactive and immersive exhibition spaces, auditoriums, workshop rooms, and conference halls to promote financial literacy, with a targeted focus on school-age youth.

The center will showcase historical documents and the Banco de España's numismatic collection.

The initiative aims to mirror leading European peer institutions, such as France's Citéco, Germany's Bundesbank Money Museum, and the Netherlands' De Nieuwe Schatkamer, while hosting seminars and debates.

Public value beyond brick and mortar

The long-term lease enables the central bank to broaden public outreach without diluting core policy mandates.

While a dedicated literacy hub mirrors international peers, impact hinges on broad educational adoption.

Realizing long-term value will require ongoing engagement, not just architectural restoration.
