Bank of Spain joins network for clear and accessible language

The Bank of Spain and the Royal Spanish Academy (RAE) signed an agreement on October 19, 2026, bringing the central bank into the Pan-Hispanic Network for Clear and Accessible Language to improve public communication.

Four commitments to clearer communication

The agreement establishes cooperation with the RAE, which runs the network's Coordination Secretariat, on actions and projects promoting clear and accessible language.

The Bank of Spain commits to participating in network activities and initiatives.

It will promote projects that encourage, disseminate and facilitate plain language, particularly in economic and financial communication.

It will also work with the RAE to implement the measures needed to deliver commitments and projects developed within the network.

Finally, it will encourage other institutions to join and support the network's founding objectives.

Membership reinforces the central bank's commitment to communication that citizens can understand and access.

More than 620 members

Launched by the RAE in 2022, the network now has more than 620 member institutions across Spanish-speaking countries.

It brings together public and private institutions, branches of government, universities, professional bodies and civil society organizations.

Members also include the language academies belonging to the Association of Academies of the Spanish Language (ASALE).

Its aim is to uphold people's right to understand laws, rules and communications of public interest, strengthening democratic quality and the exercise of citizenship.

Clarity serves financial decisions

The agreement places public understanding at the center of economic and financial communication.

Its stated benefit is better-informed decisions and a stronger relationship between institutions and citizens.

The commitments concern cooperation and language use, not changes to financial policy.
