Patent microdata now accessible for researchers
The Banco de España and the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office (OEPM) have signed an agreement to provide researchers with granular data on patent and utility model applications. This data will be accessible through the Banco de España's secure Data Lab (BELab).
Secure access for innovation studies
The Banco de España and the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office (OEPM) have signed a pivotal cooperation agreement aimed at significantly broadening research access to granular data.
This collaboration specifically provides detailed information on patent and utility model applications officially registered with the OEPM.
Both researchers within the Banco de España and external academics will now be able to access this comprehensive dataset.
This access is granted within the highly secure and controlled environment of the Banco de España's Data Lab (BELab).
The BELab framework is meticulously designed to ensure the utmost confidentiality of all sensitive information, thereby safeguarding proprietary data while making it available for rigorous academic inquiry.
This initiative is expected to substantially facilitate the development of advanced economic studies focused on the dynamics of innovation and intellectual property.
Maximizing analytical value
The BELab environment is central to this initiative, providing a secure and controlled space that guarantees data confidentiality.
A key feature is the ability to combine this new microdata with other existing data collections within BELab, significantly maximizing its analytical value.
This integration capability allows for more comprehensive and interdisciplinary economic studies on innovation.
The cooperation agreement, slated for formal publication in the Official State Gazette (Boletín Oficial del Estado) soon, is established for an initial period of four years.
It includes a provision for renewal for an equivalent duration, ensuring sustained access to this valuable research resource.
