Italian households acquire €23.9 billion in financial assets
Italian households acquired €23.9 billion in financial assets in Q2 2026, while their liabilities increased by €17.1 billion. The Bank of Italy reported the figures in its financial accounts published on October 15, 2026.
Managed products lead household purchases
Households bought €15.4 billion of asset management products, €6.7 billion of shares and other equity and €5.6 billion of debt securities in Q2 2026.
Other financial assets fell by €2.1 billion and deposits by €1.7 billion.
Their €17.1 billion liability increase comprised €10.2 billion in other financial liabilities, mainly trade and fiscal debts, €5.8 billion in bank loans and €1.1 billion in other loans.
Non-financial corporations acquired €29.2 billion in financial assets: deposits rose €11.4 billion, equity purchases reached €9.4 billion, debt securities €3.6 billion and managed products €3.3 billion.
Other corporate financial assets increased €1.5 billion, mainly through intra-group loans.
Unlike households, corporations increased their deposits.
Corporate liabilities outpace asset purchases
Non-financial corporations increased financial liabilities by €38.8 billion.
Other liabilities, mainly trade and fiscal debts, rose €14.3 billion and loans increased €12.1 billion.
Net issuance reached €7.2 billion for debt securities and €5.2 billion for shares and other equity.
The Bank of Italy revised its financial accounts on October 15, 2024, during the five-year national accounts benchmark revision.
Changes incorporated new data sources and revisions to balance of payments and non-financial sectoral accounts.
Transactions are not wealth gains
The tables distinguish financial asset stocks from quarterly acquisition flows.
Household and non-profit institutions' assets stood at €6,608.813 billion in Q2 2026, versus €6,390.213 billion in Q1. Their Q2 net acquisitions were €23.925 billion, not the full increase in asset stocks.
