Strict routing keys for Treasury transfers
Payments in euro to the Italian State administration settling in the RTGS component of Target Services must be addressed to BIC code BITAITRRXXX.
Transactions for Delega Unica require creditor agent BIC BITAITRRDEL and IBAN IT88A0100003221000000000001, alongside the 11-digit reference code from record V38 sent to the Fiscal Agency.
Entrate di Tesoreria transactions use BIC BITAITRRENT and specific IBANs from the Ministry of Economy and Finance; these should go via SEPA clearing and only exceptionally enter RTGS for large amounts.
Under ISO 20022 pacs.008 messaging, debtor names, addresses, and BANCADITALIA as creditor name are mandatory.
Any RTGS message failing to meet these strict specifications will be returned.
Codewords, structured strings and return handling
Remittance information requires precise syntax.
Delega Unica transfers mandate codewords such as /VEUNORD/, /VEUNCOM/, /VEUNANT/, or /VEUNI24/.
Entrate di Tesoreria requires a structured string combining debit date, tax code, payment reason, payer code, and debtor name separated by plus signs, with double plus signs denoting omitted data.
Outbound Treasury payments originate under BIC BITAITRRXXX.
Operators handling returned funds must submit pacs.004 return messages citing original message identifiers.
Zero tolerance for messaging errors
The granular formatting mandate leaves zero margin for technical error among participating banks.
