Banking supervision guidelines consolidated, feedback requested

The Basel Committee on Banking Supervision has published a consolidated version of its guidelines and sound practices, aiming to improve accessibility and streamline guidance materials. Comments on the consultation are requested by 26 June 2026.

A modular approach for clearer guidance

The Basel Committee on Banking Supervision has launched a new section of its website, presenting a consolidated version of its guidelines and sound practices for banks and supervisors.

This initiative aims to enhance the accessibility of the Committee's outputs by offering them in a more user-friendly, modular format.

This new structure mirrors the successful approach adopted for the Basel Framework, which was introduced in December 2019 and received positive feedback from stakeholders.

The consolidated guidelines reorganise existing content, moving away from the previous series of PDF documents published on the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) website.

This reorganisation focuses solely on improving presentation without introducing new expectations or requirements for banks.

The Committee intends to periodically review its guidelines and sound practices as standards, supervisory practices and the financial system evolve.

75 percent reduction in volume

As part of this streamlining exercise, the Committee has significantly reduced the volume of its guidance materials by approximately 75 percent.

This was achieved by removing content identified as outdated, duplicative, or superseded.

The goal is to provide a more concise and evergreen set of expectations for the financial industry.

The publication of these guidelines in a new format, initially in draft form, is accompanied by a consultative document.

The Committee welcomes comments on the three questions set out in this document, with a deadline of Friday 26 June 2026 for submissions.

All comments will be published on the Bank for International Settlements website unless confidentiality is specifically requested.
