Roundtable set for September on UK captive insurance framework
The Prudential Regulation Authority will hold a hybrid industry roundtable on 17 September 2026 to discuss proposals for a tailored UK captive insurance regime set out in CP11/26. Registration closes on 4 September 2026, ahead of the consultation deadline on 14 October 2026.
Proportional capital and reporting rules proposed
Consultation paper CP11/26 outlines a proportionate regulatory framework specifically designed for single-parent captive insurers in the United Kingdom.
The proposals aim to streamline capital requirements, reporting obligations, authorization processes, and supervisory expectations for these niche entities.
Scheduled for Thursday 17 September 2026 from 10:00am to 12:30pm, the roundtable will provide detailed clarity on the new regime and collect feedback from market participants.
Attendees must register by 4 September 2026, with attendance capped at two representatives per organisation.
The Financial Conduct Authority will also participate to address related regulatory proposals under CP26/29.
Broad engagement across the insurance market
The consultation targets a broad spectrum of market participants, including existing and prospective captive owners, corporate risk managers, treasury teams, captive managers, insurance brokers, and legal advisors.
CP11/26 was originally published on 14 July 2026, with the formal consultation period running through 14 October 2026.
By offering hybrid attendance options via in-person slots and Microsoft Teams, the regulators aim to gather widespread feedback across the corporate insurance sector before finalizing the rulebook.
Tailored rules long overdue for UK competitiveness
Establishing a UK captive regime is an essential move to retain corporate risk capital domestically.
However, success depends on whether the PRA delivers genuine operational relief rather than mere bureaucratic rebranding.
Participants must press for concrete capital and reporting relaxations at the September roundtable.
