Michl ranks among top three EU central bank governors with A-
Czech National Bank Governor Aleš Michl ranked among the top three European Union central bank heads for the second consecutive year in Global Finance's 2026 report card. Michl earned an A- rating alongside Poland's Adam Glapiński and Denmark's Christian Kettel Thomsen.
Top tier in Prague, Warsaw and Copenhagen
Global Finance awarded Czech National Bank (CNB) Governor Aleš Michl an A- grade in its Central Banker Report Cards 2026.
The ranking evaluates governors on an A+ to F scale based on criteria including inflation management and political independence.
Danish central bank Governor Christian Kettel Thomsen secured an A+ rating for the second consecutive year, while Polish central bank Governor Adam Glapiński also earned an A-.
Michl highlighted the central bank's focus on long-term price stability alongside infrastructure projects: “In monetary policy, we remain hawkish, with low inflation over the long term as our objective. At the same time, we are actively testing AI and new technologies.”
Thirty-two years of governor scorecards
Global Finance has evaluated central bank leadership since 1994, making the report cards a long-standing benchmark for institutional credibility.
The publication highlighted that A-category recipients demonstrated discipline and prudent decision-making despite persistent inflationary pressure and uncertain growth conditions.
Full results covering central bankers globally will be published in the October 2026 print and digital editions.
Decorative accolades, little substance
Magazine scorecards provide welcome public relations for central bank governors.
Yet letter grades oversimplify complex monetary policy and reduce institutional teamwork to individual accolades.
For professional market participants, these annual rankings offer little analytical value beyond ceremonial prestige.
