DNB ATMs improve access to cash on Saba and Sint Eustatius
The first ATMs provided by De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB) opened on Saba and Sint Eustatius this week, making it easier for residents, business owners and visitors to withdraw cash.
New cash points for island residents
De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB) has opened its first ATMs on Saba and Sint Eustatius, significantly improving access to cash for residents, business owners, and visitors.
This initiative is a collaborative effort involving DNB, the Public Entities of Saba and Sint Eustatius, and ATM provider Brink's.
The official opening on Saba took place on Monday, June 29, with Governor Jonathan Johnson making the first withdrawal alongside Inge van Dijk, DNB's Director of Payments & Cash.
On Thursday, July 2, Governor Alida Francis and Ms. van Dijk officially opened the ATMs on Sint Eustatius.
This marks a milestone for DNB in enhancing the availability, accessibility, and affordability of cash services on the islands.
Given that the US dollar is the local currency, the new ATMs will dispense US dollar bills.
Expanding services in the Caribbean
The expansion of ATM services by De Nederlandsche Bank addresses the widespread use of cash across the Caribbean Netherlands islands.
DNB's decision to introduce these additional cash machines complements the existing infrastructure, as Saba and Sint Eustatius currently rely on two ATMs provided by commercial banks.
The introduction of four new DNB ATMs, with two designated for each island, will substantially increase the overall availability of cash withdrawal points.
This strategic move by DNB underscores its commitment to ensuring robust payment systems and financial inclusion in the region, directly benefiting the local economy and daily transactions.
