EBA seeks Executive Director for key EU banking role

The European Banking Authority (EBA) has launched the recruitment process for its next Executive Director. The successful candidate will be appointed by the Board of Supervisors after confirmation by the European Parliament.

Shaping EU financial oversight

The Executive Director will lead the EBA's management, working closely with the Chairperson and senior staff.

Key responsibilities include preparing multi-annual and annual work programmes, managing human resources and financial budgets, and interacting with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.

The EBA's mission is to contribute to the stability and effectiveness of the European financial system through consistent, transparent, and fair regulation and supervision.

Its multi-annual priorities for 2028 include enhancing the rulebook, developing risk assessment tools, and fostering innovation.

The role is pivotal in shaping the regulatory and supervisory framework for banking, payment, and crypto-asset sectors in the EU, working closely with other European Supervisory Authorities within the ESFS.

Leading a dynamic regulatory landscape

The Executive Director will join a multicultural and multidisciplinary team of around 300 highly skilled professionals in Paris, interacting with high-level counterparts from over 40 public sector authorities across EU Member States and EEA EFTA States.

The EBA has recently taken on new responsibilities with the implementation of the EU Digital Operational Resilience Act (DORA), overseeing critical ICT service providers, and the European Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA).

The Authority is actively engaged in initiatives to improve the efficiency of the EU's regulatory and supervisory framework.

Candidates must have a university degree and at least 15 years of professional experience, including a minimum of 5 years in senior management with broad responsibilities, and thorough knowledge of financial supervision and regulation.

Pivotal role in evolving finance

This executive position arrives at a critical juncture for EU financial regulation, demanding leadership capable of navigating complex digital and sustainability transitions.

The EBA's expanding mandate, particularly in digital finance and crypto-assets, underscores its growing influence on market stability and consumer protection.

The successful candidate will therefore hold a unique opportunity to directly shape the future resilience and innovation of Europe's financial system.
