Shared values charter sets voluntary workplace commitments
Trust, engagement, care and a growth mindset underpin a voluntary charter launched in 2026 by the European Central Bank (ECB) and national authorities. Published on October 15, 2026, it sets shared workplace commitments across central banking and supervision.
Four values across national borders
The charter opens participation to national central banks and national competent authorities in the European System of Central Banks (ESCB) and Single Supervisory Mechanism (SSM).
Signatories commit to honesty, integrity, transparency and accountability; employee motivation; continuous learning, innovation and resilience; and colleagues' and society's well-being.
Shared values complement local institutional values rather than replace them.
The charter recognizes social dialogue as a pillar of trust and engagement and promotes mutual learning and knowledge sharing.
It supports institutional independence and credibility and follows principles in the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union and the Maastricht Treaty.
Signatures accumulate through 2026
The introductory list covers signatories as of May 12, 2026, with quarterly updates planned.
Readable signatures include Ales Michl for the Czech National Bank in Prague in June 2026; Mark Branson for BaFin in Bonn on April 27, 2026; and Claude Jean Wampach for CSSF Banking Supervision on April 28, 2026.
Claudia Buch signs as Chair of the SSM Supervisory Board in Frankfurt am Main.
Another ECB signature identifies a representative to the Supervisory Board and carries the date May 20, 2026.
Participation remains public and voluntary.
Workplace promises, not regulatory requirements
The charter establishes a voluntary institutional commitment rather than a binding supervisory requirement.
Its annex turns shared values into recruitment messages centered on impact, growth, stability and community.
The stated purpose is to attract candidates and strengthen the institutions' collective position as employers.
