Taskforce members appointed for reporting harmonisation
The Financial Conduct Authority and the Bank of England have appointed industry experts to their joint Transaction and Post-trade Reporting Harmonisation Taskforce. The initiative aims to align regulatory frameworks across UK markets.
Three working groups take shape
The newly formed taskforce is structured into three distinct working groups to tackle regulatory alignment across UK MiFIR, UK EMIR, and UK SFTR frameworks.
The main Policy working group brings together senior representatives from major financial institutions like Barclays, Citigroup, and J.P. Morgan Chase, under the joint leadership of Helen Packard and Julia Giese.
The Strategy working group focuses on broader strategic objectives with leaders from BlackRock, Citadel, and Deutsche Bank, co-chaired by Dominic Holland and Nicholas Butt.
Finally, the Architecture working group addresses technical data standards with experts from London Stock Exchange Group and ICE Clear Europe.
Personal capacity and regulatory reach
Taskforce members have been appointed in a personal capacity, drawing expertise from asset managers, investment banks, market infrastructure providers, and industry associations.
Several represented firms are authorised and regulated by the Bank of England, the Prudential Regulation Authority, or the FCA.
These working groups will be supported directly by specialist analytical and regulatory teams from both central authorities to shape long-term market reporting standards.
Pragmatic alignment or bureaucratic burden
Streamlining transaction reporting is long overdue for market participants operating in the UK.
However, the sheer breadth of industry representation risks bogging down technical progress in endless committee debates.
Ultimately, success will depend on whether regulators can translate industry feedback into decisive rule changes.
