Mario Draghi to hold 10th Karl Brunner Lecture

Mario Draghi will deliver the 10th Karl Brunner Distinguished Lecture for the Swiss National Bank (SNB). The public event is scheduled for October 1, 2026, at ETH Zurich.

A career of influence

Mario Draghi significantly shaped Eurozone monetary policy as President of the European Central Bank (ECB) from 2011 to 2019.

His leadership during the Euro crisis earned him global recognition, establishing him as one of the most influential central bank presidents of our time.

After his ECB tenure, Draghi served as Italian Prime Minister from 2021 to 2022.

In 2024, he published a widely noted report on European competitiveness.

This year, he will receive the Charlemagne Prize for his contributions to Europe.

Earlier, Draghi was Governor of Banca d'Italia, Vice President and Managing Director of Goldman Sachs, Director General of the Italian Treasury, and Executive Director of the World Bank.

He earned his PhD in Economics from MIT in 1977 and held various professorships.

A decade of distinguished lectures

The tenth Karl Brunner Distinguished Lecture will take place on Thursday, October 1, 2026, at 5:30 PM in the Audi Max of ETH Zurich.

The event is public and will be conducted in English, with a live stream available on the SNB website.

The Karl Brunner Distinguished Lecture Series was established by the SNB in 2016 to commemorate the 100th birthday of Swiss economist Karl Brunner (1916–1989).

Speakers invited to the series are prominent figures whose work has significantly influenced the monetary policy practice of central banks.
