Bank of Spain and University of Barcelona partner on financial education

The Banco de España and the University of Barcelona have signed a framework agreement to collaborate on financial education initiatives. The partnership aims to integrate financial literacy into the university's teaching activities and train educators.

Integrating financial literacy

The newly signed framework agreement outlines several key initiatives to embed financial education within the University of Barcelona's academic offerings.

It specifically aims to integrate financial literacy into various teaching activities, targeting diverse student groups and the broader community.

A core component of the collaboration involves developing comprehensive 'train-the-trainer' programs.

These programs are designed to equip teaching staff with the most advanced content, pedagogical approaches, and methodologies in financial education, ensuring high-quality instruction across the university.

Furthermore, the agreement seeks to foster innovative teaching projects, with the goal of enhancing the overall quality, accessibility, and impact of financial education courses offered by the UB.

Strengthening regional strategy

Banco de España Governor José Luis Escrivá highlighted the strategic importance of the agreement, stating that it "offers an opportunity to reinforce the Banco de España's financial education strategy in Catalonia through a first-rate university partner, with whom there is already a positive prior collaboration experience.

" This underscores the central bank's commitment to expanding financial literacy regionally.

University of Barcelona Rector Joan Guàrdia also expressed satisfaction, noting that "The Banco de España is the ideal ally to put all the UB's knowledge at the service of financial education.

" He emphasized the combined efforts of two key state-level institutions, expressing confidence in the partnership's success.
