Banco de España and CEPR convene economic history symposium

The Banco de España and the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR) will host their joint Economic History Symposium and Seminar from May 27 to 29, 2026. The event will take place in Roda de Bará, Spain, bringing together researchers to discuss historical economic topics.

Diverse historical economic research presented

The three-day symposium features a rich program with ten distinct sessions covering a broad spectrum of economic history.

Topics range from the history of trade and culture to early modern finance and central banking.

Researchers will present papers on demography, mobility, the impact of technology on institutions, and interwar banking.

Further sessions delve into pathways to female empowerment, the economic legacies of colonialism in the Americas, and interwar macro history.

The diverse agenda highlights ongoing research into long-term economic developments and their societal impacts, drawing on historical data and methodologies to inform contemporary understanding of economic forces.

Deputy Governor to open proceedings

The event will commence with a welcome address by Deputy Governor Soledad Núñez of the Banco de España, underscoring the institution's commitment to economic research.

The symposium, co-organized with the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR), will be held exclusively in person in Roda de Bará, Spain.

All presentations and discussions will be conducted in English, fostering international collaboration among scholars.
