Shared values unite 35 European central banks and supervisors
On October 15, 2026, the Banco de España marked World Values Day by explaining its commitment to a charter shared by 35 European central banks and supervisors. Four values guide cooperation, workplace culture and professional development.
Four values across Europe
The Banco de España has signed the Shared Values Charter of the European System of Central Banks (ESCB) and the Single Supervisory Mechanism (SSM).
Staff from participating institutions jointly developed its four values.
Engagement connects employees to work serving Spain and Europe; care emphasizes respect, listening and diverse views.
Trust rests on transparency, integrity and accountability, while a growth mindset promotes learning, innovation and improvement.
These commitments complement institutional independence and collective credibility.
European Central Bank (ECB) President Christine Lagarde said: “If we act together, our strengths can be multiplied.”
The Banco de España also identifies independence, accountability, public service, integrity and excellence as its own values.
A career beyond Spain
The Banco de España sets out its institutional values in Strategic Plan 2030 and links them to collaboration, analytical rigour and service to society.
Its employment offer includes career development, international assignments, European working groups, competitive pay and employee benefits.
Flexible arrangements support work-life balance, while an inclusive culture and workplace facilities support well-being, collaboration and learning.
The blog connects these opportunities to the shared ESCB and SSM mission of economic and financial stability and service to European citizens.
Conduct gives values meaning
The Charter establishes shared principles, not a change in monetary policy or supervisory requirements.
Its practical focus is how staff collaborate, make decisions and remain accountable.
The blog itself makes daily conduct, rather than declarations alone, the measure of institutional culture.
